  • Jock Sprat

The Jock Sprat is a bug for Grayling but will take Brown Trout as well. You can vary the size of hook and bead to meet your needs. The one shown here is fairly heavy and will get down fast to the deeper pools on the river.

  • Ballon Caddis

A great little sedge pattern that also doubles as an indicator for fishing the duo.

  • Summo Shrimp

This is an ideal pattern to be fished for trout with an abundant supply of shrimp, such as those at Grafham Water. I have also considered using this on the river.

  • Cyclops.wmv

The Cyclops was introduced to me by Jim Crawford many years ago now of course trends and fashion in fly fishing move on and this fly rarely sees the light of day. There are however the odd occassions when something a little bit different is needed and this can sometimes do the trick.

  • Fritz Bomb.wmv

This is a basic lure I tie for guys that I am trying to teach to fish. It can be fished easily on a floating line what most beginners start with and the tail gives it lots of movement. Trout can find this very tempting.

  • winged wet.wmv

Winged flies have always been somewhat of a mystery to me but after looking over Wingmans step by step on FF Forums I thought I would give it a bash. I have cheated a bit with the use of UV resin to hold the palmered wing in place. It may give you some ideas for […]

  • Orange Blob.wmv

The Orange blob detested by some fished exclusively by others not the nicest of flies to look at but by gum it catches fish!

  • Bibio Snatcher.wmv

The snatcher is a fly that is very popular north of the border, I have to confess neverhaving fished the fly myself. This fly I have done for a freind that has been away from the scene for a while but is hoping to get some fishing in on Loch Leven this year. So tight […]

  • Shuttlecock Buzzer.wmv

A shuttlecock buzzer should be in every fly fishermans box, when the fish are on this the sport can be fantastic. I must confess to prefering the yellow owl for this kind of fishing although this can be a handy change pattern.

  • Paraloop Hopper.wmv

This is a fly that once treated will float all day, the white paraloop using aerowing is also a good way of keeping track of your fly on the water. A useful variation on the traditional hopper.

  • The Straggle Cruncher.wmv

A variation on a popular still water pattern, ideal as a point fly while nymphing or used as a dropper when fishing a team of lures.

  • Hends Quill Bug.wmv

This is a small heavy bug used in fairly fast water using the Hends quill body material.
