The flatwing style of tying a streamer, originated in early 20th century Maine, is today very popular with striped bass anglers. But the concept can be applied to any baitfish imitation. The one we are tying today imitates a sand eel or silversides. The recipe is as follows:
Hook: Size 4 standard saltwater
Thread: White 6/0
Tail: White bucktail
Underwing: Two white and one olive thin saddle hackle
Dubbing pillow: Fluff from the base of the hackle feather
Body: Pearl tinsel or braid
Throat: White bucktail
Middle Wing: Yellow bucktail
Wing flash: Silver flashabou
Overwing: Olive bucktail
Topping: Peacock herl
Eyes: Jungle cock or substitute
