Cadence Explained ⬇️

Running cadence (also known as stride rate) is the number of steps you take per minute (SPM).
If you have a lower cadence you tend to take longer, slower strides. This could result in over-striding, which can cause you to lock your knees and potentially pick up an injury.

Having a higher cadence, where your feet strike the ground under your centre of gravity, can reduce your risk of injury and increase your speed. However, too high a cadence can result in ineffective running as the stride length becomes too short.

The ideal cadence varies depending on the individual, however it is commonly accepted to be between 160 and 180.
