Ausable Wulff Dry
This is a classic pattern designed for the rough water of the Adirondack Mountains by the late Francis Betters, legendary Adirondack tier. It works all over the world, though, wherever trout are found and imitates many different insects with tannish-orange coloration.
Hook: Standard dry fly, size 14 (also tied in sizes 10-18)
Thread: Fluorescent orange 6/0 or 8/0
Tail: Woodchuck tail or brown hair from the tarsal gland of a whitetail deer
Wing: Calf tail or calf body, white
Body: Orange-toned Australian opossum fur, or any tannish-orange dubbing
Hackle: Grizzly and brown
