Supertri returns to Toulouse with expanded race weekend and first-ever mass participation event

Supertri continues to roll out the list of races in its global series this season. Some venues are new to the brand, while others are returning favourites. Today, the brand announced it will return to Toulouse, France for a fourth year.

Set against the backdrop of the “Pink City,” the popular European event will, for the first time, expand to include more age group events. The Toulouse Triathlon By Supertri will include a mass participation event for amateurs which will be held in the morning on Sunday, October 5, ahead of the elite field racing in the Supertri League later that afternoon.

A race for the ages

The age group event is designed to fit all athlete levels, as Supertri continues its pursuit of growing the sport and drawing new athletes to its events. The course will be similar to the elite’s, racing through the heart of the city. Focused in the centre of the thriving Mediterannean city in the south of France, the short-course, fast-paced racing style and location draws big spectator crowds each year. Adding to the thrill of swimming in the local river, and riding and running in a warm, exotic location, the cheering fan base makes for an energy-infused event.

It’s a scene that has enticed athletes and fans alike for years, said Supertri co-founder and CEO, Michael D’hulst.

“Toulouse has consistently delivered world-class racing, enthusiastic crowds, and meaningful community impact,” he remarked.

“The addition of the Toulouse Triathlon By Supertri is a natural next step, giving more people the chance to be part of this extraordinary experience. It’s about opening the sport up and celebrating what it can do for people and places and we can’t wait to release the remaining league locations.”

Huge spectator base

The event averages 10,000 spectators, many returning as athletes in the following years. The organizers have put on swim clinics for youth in the past as part of the race weekend, and hosted the bike and run event, “Run with Vince,” lead by French triathlon star and Olympian, Vincent Luis.

“Toulouse is a city that lives and breathes sport,” added D’hulst. “It has become part of the Supertri story, and we’re proud to be returning once again — this time with something new, exciting, and more accessible than ever.”

The main events on Sunday are the Olympic distance, Triathlon M, and a sprint distance, Triathlon S. There is even a mini triathlon that covers a 400m swim, 10km biking and a 2.5km run, called the Triathlon XS. For all the races, athletes will swim in the Garonne River, cycle on closed roads through the city centre, and run in the downtown core pass thousands of fans.

Race fast and flat. Nail a PB. Relax and recover riverside with a petit pain au chocolat and latte. Then, take in the rest of the action during the elite race for an authentic Mediterranean experience.
