T100 Vancouver men’s race: Belgium dominates

Belgium’s Jelle Geens claimed a dominant victory in the men’s Pro race at the T100 Vancouver triathlon on Saturday, leading a 1-2 finish alongside compatriot Marten Van Riel.

Geens held off Van Riel, finishing 49 seconds ahead of his teammate, while Germany’s Mika Noodt, who overcame a drafting penalty, secured third place. Noodt’s late surge saw him edge out Spain’s Antonio Benito Lopez and New Zealand’s Kyle Smith.

Swim

American Morgan Pearson led out of the water, setting the pace with a 24:49 swim time. Pearson was followed by Marc Dubrick, Brazil’s Miguel Hidalgo, and Van Riel, who were tightly grouped.

Bike

The bike leg saw Bogen, Van Riel, Noodt, Smith, Hidalgo, and Geens form a lead pack, with Greek Panagiotis Bitados joining later. As the race progressed, Noodt’s penalty set him back. However, the German recovered strongly, joining the front group once again.

Run

Geens maintained his relentless pace during the final run, breaking away from Van Riel with 8 km to go, leaving his compatriot unable to respond. Noodt took third, while Smith and Antonio Benito Lopez fought for the remaining positions. The sole Canadian in the race, Jackson Laundry, finished 13th.
