Yee Returns, Wilde Doubles Up at WTCS French Riviera

On August 31, 2025, the French Riviera will host the fifth round of the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS). It will be the inaugural WTCS French Riviera race and the first time World Triathlon racing has returned to France since the Paris Olympics.

An action-packed weekend awaits on August 30 and 31 in the coastal towns of Saint-Raphael and Frejus. Elite men and women will line up for the sprint-distance WTCS races while the T100 Triathlon World Tour also makes its French Riviera debut.

The biggest storyline is the long-awaited return of Olympic Champion Alex Yee. The British star is back on the WTCS start line for the first time since the 2024 Finals in Torremolinos-Andalucia, and is ready to reignite his rivalry with Hayden Wilde.

Wilde, the winner of WTCS Abu Dhabi and fresh off victory at the London T100, is racing both the T100 French Riviera on Saturday and the WTCS French Riviera on Sunday. The London race marked Wilde’s first competition in three months following his collision with a truck – a triumphant return that underscores his form heading into a demanding double-race weekend.

Matt Hauser currently tops the WTCS rankings with two wins and two runner-up finishes this season. Although listed on the start list, he has already announced that he will sit out the next three races to focus on the Grand Final in Wollongong, Australia, where he hopes to claim his first world title on home soil.

The American squad is led by Morgan Pearson who, like Wilde, will also be racing a double this weekend.

For Yee, the French Riviera marks the beginning of a crucial push. He has three chances to collect points before Wollongong. He kicked off his return to triathlon racing with a win at the Supertri event in Toronto and comes into this race with strong momentum.

Canadian fans will also have plenty to cheer for. Charles Paquet, ranked 8th in the WTCS standings, headlines the Canadian trio. Tyler Mislawchuk, currently 12th in the rankings, is also on the start list. The third Canadian, Mathis Beaulieu, will make his WTCS season debut after strong performances at the Toronto Supertri, a third-place finish at the World Triathlon Cup Samarkand, and victory at the Americas Triathlon Cup Montreal.

The WTCS French Riviera promises world-class competition and a vibrant atmosphere as triathlon takes over one of Europe’s most iconic coastlines.

WTCS racing will be streamed live on TriathlonLive on Sunday, August 31.
