Kat Matthews Wins Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun and Sits Atop the Ironman Pro Series Standings

Kat Matthews is proving unstoppable in 2025, securing yet another win this past weekend at Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun. With a swim of 25:21, a bike leg of 2:17:52, and a run of 1:19:43, she once again climbed to the top of the podium, vaulting herself to the number one spot in the Ironman Pro Series standings with 14,880 points.

Her season resume sparkles: first at Ironman Texas, second at Ironman Hamburg, first at Ironman 70.3 Swansea, and now first at Zell am See-Kaprun. With only the best five results counting, and no more than three from the full Ironman distance, Matthews is perfectly positioned as she builds toward Kona. Arguably, no other athlete is better placed to take the Pro Series title.

For the bike leg, Matthews made the unusual decision to remove power data from her computer, admitting it would only make her sad. Just three days earlier, she shared a candid post about a failed session, writing: “Today I failed a session – my body would not let me achieve the goal.”

In another reflection, she described the nerves she felt heading into the race – the same nerves she often faces when staring down tough training days. She called them: “The perfect mix of on the limit and opportunity… I’m leaning into it.”

It is this honesty about fear, fatigue, and failure that makes her success resonate. The best performances often hinge on this exact vulnerability, where athletes test the edge of their capacity, teetering between success and failure. With Kat, fans sense the humanity beneath the speed.

One fan summed it up best in her Instagram comments: “Grateful to be a triathlon fan in the era of Kat Matthews.”
