Tying a Blae & Sooty Olive with Davie McPhail

A "Sooty Olive" is a classic, traditional Irish wet fly pattern used in fly fishing, especially on large loughs (lakes) for trout, mimicking dark olive lake olives (Cloeon simile) and chironomids (buzzers), featuring a dark olive/black fur body, gold or silver rib, bronze or grey mallard wings, and a golden pheasant tippet tail popular when these natural insects hatch in late spring/early summer.
