All new Dura-Ace WH-R9370 Wheel Series

All new Dura-Ace WH-R9370 Wheel Series

Shimano has announced the launch of its all-new Dura-Ace wheel lineup, a next-generation aerodynamic wheel range developed to deliver race-ready speed, efficiency, and ride quality through a series of advanced re-engineered structures.

Developed under Shimano’s Science of Speed design philosophy, the new lineup comprising the C36, C50, C60, C99 (front), and Rear Disc delivers improvements in weight reduction, aerodynamic efficiency, and structural stiffness. The wheels are engineered as a complete system for road cycling, time trialing, and triathlon racing.

Lighter, faster, and engineered for modern racing in collaboration with professional triathletes including Kat Matthews and WorldTour riders from Alpecin Deceuninck and Fenix Deceuninck, including Mathieu van der Poel, the new DURA-ACE wheel lineup is built for riders seeking maximum speed and responsiveness. Their feedback and experience helped shape the final ride characteristics, refining acceleration, sprint stability, and crosswind handling throughout the development process.

From new spoke technology and improved rim layups to a holistic approach across the rim, hub, and spoke architectures, the new wheels have been purpose-built for your race needs. Shimano optimized the wheels around today’s 28-30C tires while retaining its adjustable cup-and-cone hub system, allowing bearing preload to be optimized once the wheel is installed, while adding replaceable bearings to simplify long-term servicing.

Here’s how the new DURA-ACE wheels compared with the previous R9270 generation:

Most triathletes remember when 21 or 23mm tires were the norm. Now, 28 to 30C is the everyday choice, and the WH-R9370 has been designed accordingly. Shape matters. The relationship between the tire and rim is one of the key areas Shimano targeted in the new lineup. The wheels feature a 23mm internal rim width for improved tire shape and stability, front- and rear-specific rim profiles tuned for each rim depth, and external widths engineered to balance aerodynamics with crosswind stability.

In controlled testing at 48km/h on 30C tires, Shimano reports the new wheels reduce aerodynamic drag by up to 2.7 watts. Combined with an overall weight reduction from the R9270 generation, Shimano says the gains translate into measurable performance improvements in race conditions.

The most interesting innovation is Shimano’s new carbon spoke system, with two distinct profiles designed around different racing objectives: Super Aero (5.2mm x 0.8mm) and Aero (4.0mm x 1.1mm). Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Shimano tailored the spoke type, count, and configuration for each wheel in the lineup. Whether the goal is lightweight climbing, all-around racing, or high-speed rigidity for sprinting, each wheel has been tuned to achieve its target performance. Shimano reports that this system-level approach allows stiffness, aerodynamics, and ride compliance to work together rather than optimizing one characteristic at the expense of another.

Shimano also retained its adjustable cup-and-cone hub system, allowing bearing preload to be fine tuned once the wheel is installed to reduce internal friction while maintaining smooth rotation. In addition, Shimano introduced replaceable bearings to improve serviceability and support long-term performance.

In Shimano’s internal testing, the new cup-and-cone bearings prodcued 30 percent lower rotational torque than standard cartridge bearings. Additional details about the wheel options are below.
