Last week, the Apple Triathlon set to take place on August 9th in Kelowna was cancelled due to wildfires and poor air quality.

The Apple Triathlon was also set to host the Age Group National Championships for the standard and sprint distance triathlons and Aquabike races along with the Junior and U23 Provincial Championships as part of the BC SuperSeries.

The cancellation was made in consultation with the event’s partners, medical provider, Triathlon Canada, and Triathlon BC. The decision was made to ensure the safety of fans, athletes, team personnel, officials and everyone involved in the event.

BC’s SuperSeries serves as a performance pathway series supporting athletes and coaches as they build towards success at high-performance events such as national championships, international events, and ultimately, the Olympic Games. Athletes collect points at each event with provincial championships offering bonus points toward series standings. The initial schedule had four events total. The final rankings will be determined by counting the best three Super Series results.

With a quick pivot on behalf of Triathlon BC, the 2026 Triathlon BC Junior and U23 Provincial Championships have been re-scheduled and will now take place alongside the Vancouver T100 Triathlon on August 15th. The Junior and U23 Championships are a draft-legal super sprint triathlon for athletes ages 14-23 years of age.

Triathlon BC expressed their gratitude to the Vancouver T100 team for promptly opening their race to allow the province’s top developing triathletes to take part in a premier triathlon event.
