2023 Ironman 70.3 World Champion Rico Bogen is well known, but the Bogen success goes beyond him and extends to the family.

Rico’s sister, Bianca Bogen, also races professionally, and this past weekend the pair competed at the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Leipzig in their own backyard. Beyond two silver medals in the men’s and women’s pro races, the weekend was made extra special by Rico’s wife, Emily Bogen, also competing in, and winning, the amateur field.

For the trio, this marked the second time they all shared the same race course, following the 2025 Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Marbella.

Two Professional Silver Medals and an Amateur Win

In the men’s race, Rico quickly took the lead out of T1, putting down his usual fastest bike split of the day in 1:53:44. He held the lead until Wilhelm Hirsch made his decisive pass with 3km remaining in the run. Hirsch claimed the win in 3:30:59, exactly two minutes ahead of Rico.

Meanwhile, in the women’s race, Caroline Pohle continued a remarkably strong season, now with five wins from six middle-distance races. Pohle dominated from start to finish, posting the fastest times across every segment, including transitions, with the exception of T2. Bianca was able to keep pace with Pohle in the swim and went on to claim second place in 4:05:06. Leipzig marked her fifth race of the season and her second medal, following a win at Ironman 70.3 Sweden.

Now over to the amateur race, where Emily Bogen had a standout performance, securing another overall age-group victory after also finishing first overall at Ironman 70.3 Westfriesland in June. Emily raced a personal-best time of 4:17:16. Last year, she finished fourth in the 18-24 age group at the 70.3 World Championships, and the natural question is whether she will look to go on to race as a pro as well, adding to the family milestones in triathlon.
