While the excitement was fully focused on championship racing this weekend, as the dust settles, it’s also worth checking in on the Pro Series: how things stand before the final race in Kona, and who is best positioned to contend for the 2026 Pro Series crown.

We recalculated what we might call the “pre-Kona Pro Series standings” to get what we feel is a more accurate picture of the race for the title.

The current standings count five races for athletes who have already completed five, which creates some noise when comparing them with athletes who have only four races to their name this season.

Because Kona is worth the most points, we’re assuming the eventual Pro Series winner will combine their Kona score with their four best other results of the year. So, for the purposes of this exercise, we calculated interim standings using each athlete’s best four eligible results to date, with the assumption that Kona becomes the fifth.

Women

On the women’s side, Solveig Løvseth enters Kona best positioned to win the title, with 14,999 points from her four best races. That total includes wins at the Ironman Hamburg European Championship and Ironman Texas North American Championship, complemented by fourth at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship and a runner-up finish to Taylor Knibb in Oceanside.

Just 61 points behind, according to our calculations, is Laura Philipp. That means if Philipp were to beat Løvseth by a minute in Kona, she could take the crown.

Philipp’s adjusted score of 14,938 is built on a win at Ironman Kalmar-Sweden and runner-up finish in Hamburg, along with her recent victory at Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun and sixth-place finish at the world championship in Nice.

The battle appears most likely to come down to those two – unless things go sideways in Kona.

Next in line heading to the Big Island are Katrine Christensen (13,156 points), Marta Sanchez (12,931) and Lotte Wilms (12,271), with Kat Matthews sitting sixth and unlikely to be in a position to defend her 2025 Pro Series crown.

Men

On the men’s side, Casper Stornes is best positioned heading to the Big Island, with a score of 15,032.

Just 160 points – equivalent to 2:40 in Kona – separates him from Marten Van Riel (14,872), currently sitting in second. Jonas Schomburg sits third (14,678), Kristian Blummenfelt fourth (14,624), and Gustav Iden fifth (14,272).

(Yes, there is once again some Norwegian dominance going on!)

Van Riel had a disappointing race in Nice, but he’s still not someone to rule out for a big performance in Kona. With that said, whether Blummenfelt can defend his 2025 Pro Series title may be the most intriguing question.

Blu currently sits 408 points behind his compatriot Stornes, equivalent to 6:48 in Kona. Not impossible, but that’s a significant gap to make up on the Big Island.

Then again, never rule out Blu.
