This past weekend, Canadian Paula Findlay made history with a victory in her Ironman debut at Ironman Lake Placid.

With more than 20 years of experience in triathlon and a decorated career that includes tremendous success over the middle distance, this marked Findlay’s highly anticipated first attempt at the full Ironman – and on one of the sport’s most challenging courses.

Not only did the performance resonate with the crowds cheering her on throughout race day, but it also captured the attention of fans across Canada, including Prime Minister Mark Carney, who shared a celebratory message: “What a debut. Congratulations to fellow Edmontonian Paula Findlay on taking first place at IRONMAN Lake Placid.”

Carney has made a point of recognizing Canadian sporting achievements during his time as Prime Minister, and Findlay’s historic victory was the latest accomplishment to earn his congratulations.

We can’t wait to see what’s next for the Canadian star as she turns her attention to the Ironman World Championship in Kona this October.
