Why not try hanging a small nymph or other wet fly to your surface popper? Sometimes bass and panfish are attracted to the commotion of a popper but won’t fully commit to striking it. But they’ll often not be as wary of a small fly trailing the bass bug under the surface and if they take it your bass bug acts as a bobber or strike indicator.
