OK, Buckle up for this one… As you know, I like to overcomplicate flies from time to time and this one is really no different. Full disclaimer, I know that this fly would be just as effective if it were tied with more simple legs and wing case, but I wanted a functional art project with all the bits and pieces. I describe this as "Chaotic Symmetry" in that the fly has a proper thorax, abdomen, legs, antenna, wing cases etc… BUT the wing cases are tied in crooked on purpose and the legs have knotted joints to imitate movement. At the end of the day, you should have a very proportionate fly that still looks like it lives on the wild side. Also, check out the polish weave on the body of this fly to find another fun technique that translates across many fly patterns. Happy tying!
