Zwift’s Game Update 1.86 introduced significant changes to in-game bike and wheel performance, including a new system for unlocking performance upgrades. Existing bikes now have a wider performance scope, and disc wheel combos have been made heavier, slowing them down on road bikes. Riders can unlock upgrades for their bikes by accumulating distance, time, or elevation, depending on the bike type, with each upgrade stage costing Drops. There are five possible unlocks, including aero, weight, rolling resistance, and multipliers for Drops and XP. While these upgrades offer marginal speed gains, they won’t impact races with neutralized bike performance. Additionally, upgrading three bikes from the same manufacturer to Level 5 unlocks the option to purchase a special "Halo" bike. For full details, ZwiftInsider provides extensive data and testing.
