Supertri, a global leader in short-course triathlons, has announced the acquisition of the Toronto Triathlon Festival. It is the first event in Canada under its By Supertri brand. The move further expands Supertri’s presence in North America in its mission to increase access to short-course triathlon.
The Toronto Triathlon Festival is known for its scenic urban course featuring an open-water swim in Lake Ontario, a bike ride along Toronto’s highways, and a closed-course run along the waterfront. Annually, the event draws more than 1,750 athletes and 200 volunteers, catering to a wide range of participants from elite competitors to beginners.
Supertri’s CEO, Michael D’hulst, highlighted Toronto’s strong sporting culture and the festival’s potential for growth.

Supertri’s vision for the festival
“We are excited to welcome the Toronto Triathlon Festival into the By Supertri family. The event has great growth potential and is a fantastic opportunity to build
the Supertri community. The Toronto Triathlon Festival is the perfect place to expand our By Supertri portfolio within a city with a deep sporting culture and a passionate triathlon community,” said D’hulst.
“Our goal is to celebrate everything that makes the Toronto Triathlon Festival special while introducing our world-class event delivery and unique energy to participants and establish a strong Supertri presence in Canada for years to come.”
Traditionally, the event has offered an Olympic and sprint distance race.
Jeff Chong, founder of the Toronto Triathlon Festival, emphasized how Supertri’s commitment to inclusion aligns with the spirit of the local race.
“Triathlon is for everyone and since inception in 2012, the change we have seen in the backgrounds and motivations of participants has truly demonstrated that,” said Chong.
“The stories you hear of the people coming out – whether it is someone looking to qualify for a major competition or a first timer seeing if ‘they can do it’ – are all just so inspirational. We are ecstatic to join forces with the venerable Supertri brand and look forward to, together, driving an even more memorable athlete experience in Toronto’s unique urban setting.”
The Toronto Triathlon Festival was established in 2012. This year’s event is happening July 27.

Expanding its market
Supertri is making a push into North American market, having recently acquired the Ascension Seton CapTex Triathlon in Austin, Texas, and the Kerrville Triathlon, also in Texas.
This acquisition joins other significant events in Supertri’s portfolio, including the Ascension Seton CapTex Triathlon and Kerrville Triathlon, both based in Texas. The Toronto Triathlon Festival is expected to uphold the values of By Supertri by inspiring a broad range of competitors and providing world-class event delivery. The By Supertri 2025 race calendar includes several notable events, with registration currently open to the public.
