Taylor Knibb took a commanding victory in Vancouver on Saturday, following a rare defeat to Switzerland’s Julie Derron at the T100 San Francisco. Knibb smoked it on the bike and gave her control of the race. She would go on to maintain her lead through the run to secure the win.
Swim
The swim saw a tightly packed field, with Lucy Charles-Barclay (Great Britain) leading the charge alongside Dutch star Maya Kingma and Britain’s Jess Learmonth. Knibb and American teammate Taylor Spivey were not far behind, all within 11 seconds of each other. By contrast, Derron had work to do after exiting the water in ninth, 2:40 behind the leaders. Canada’s Paula Findlay was 13th out of the water.
Bike
Knibb quickly surged to the front, joined by Learmonth, as they pulled away from the pack. Their breakaway left Charles-Barclay and Kingma trailing by over two minutes. Meanwhile, Derron lost more ground, trailing by 5:12 as the bike leg neared its end. Knibb and Learmonth maintained their dominance, entering T2 with a gap of nearly five minutes over the chasing pack. Findlay rode well, 8th on the bike, clawing back just under a minute.
Run
Knibb built on her lead in the first 2km of the run, staying ahead of Learmonth. Derron mounted a strong charge, passing several competitors to claim third place. Despite a fierce challenge from Derron, Knibb held firm to win by over two minutes, while Learmonth, despite her valiant effort, was overtaken by Derron in the final stretch. Findlay’s run was 10th overall, with a final time of 3:41:15.
