World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) announced on August 7th the cancellation of the World Triathlon Cup Valencia, originally scheduled for September 20, 2025. The PTO T100 Triathlon World Tour race, set for the same weekend, will be relocated to a new venue to be announced soon.
The decision follows confirmation of unforeseen construction at the Port of Valencia, rendering the venue logistically unfeasible for competition. After joint assessment with local authorities, organizers made the difficult decision to withdraw the World Triathlon Cup from the 2025 calendar and seek a new host location for the T100 event.
The loss of the Valencia stop is significant, as it was set to be the first time a World Triathlon Cup race and a T100 event would share a weekend and location. This combined staging was seen as a milestone in the 12-year strategic alliance between World Triathlon and the PTO, aimed at elevating the sport through closer collaboration.
The T100 Triathlon World Tour will still feature nine races in 2025, running from April to December, with stops in Singapore, San Francisco, Vancouver, London, French Riviera, Wollongong, Dubai, and the World Championship Final in Qatar. Under tour rules, each contracted professional must race a minimum of four events plus the championship final, with their four best results counting toward their season score. The Qatar finale offers extra points that will be added to determine the 2025 male and female champions.
While the Valencia T100 was not slated to include an age-group 100km race, it did plan to offer sprint and super sprint distances for amateur athletes. The change in venue will therefore affect age-group competitors as well.
World Triathlon and the PTO are working quickly to confirm a new host for the relocated T100 race, promising an event that will deliver the competitive and community atmosphere originally planned for Valencia.
