Tyler Mislawchuk Impresses with Second Place at Supertri Chicago

Men’s Race Recap: Mislawchuk Delivers in Demanding Enduro Format

Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk delivered one of his strongest performances, racing with consistency, poise, and heart to secure second place at Supertri Chicago. The demanding Enduro format – three back-to-back rounds of a 300m swim, 4km bike, and 1.6km run – left no room for error, but Mislawchuk thrived under pressure.

In the early stages, Alberto Gonzalez-Garcia of Podium Racing pushed the pace hard, opening up an 18-second lead after the first round. Mislawchuk, with Crown Racing, stayed composed in the chase group, working efficiently with athletes like Jonny Brownlee to limit the damage.

With the crowd – and his family – urging him on, the Canadian surged through the final run, closing the gap to just six seconds at the line. Gonzalez-Garcia took his first career Supertri win, while John Reed secured third.

“I don’t take this for granted. Been a while since [I was on the] podium…heart attack as always, Supertri – man, it felt good,” said Mislawchuk, visibly emotional post-race.

With this result, Gonzalez-Garcia now leads the men’s standings with 27 points, followed by Reed (24). Mislawchuk jumps to a tie for fourth overall, while fellow Canadian Mathis Beaulieu is tied for seventh with Britain’s Alex Yee. (Beaulieu’s race was disrupted during a chaotic transition, when Crown Racing’s Morgan Pearson stumbled into him and cost the young Canadian valuable time.)

Women’s Race Highlights: Lehair Flawless, Szalai Shines

Jeanne Lehair of Podium Racing delivered a commanding victory in the women’s race, executing clean transitions and consistent speed to claim her third Supertri win. She looked untouchable across all three stages.

Behind her, an exciting battle unfolded as Georgia Taylor-Brown, a seasoned Olympic medalist, held off a valiant late-race challenge from Fanni Szalai, the 17-year-old prodigy from Brownlee Racing. In the final 1.6km run, Szalai closed the gap but couldn’t quite reel in the Brit, settling for a hard-fought third.

“That was really hard. I’m too old for this,” joked Taylor-Brown at the finish. “The first swim was terrible…I felt okay on the run, especially the final run.”

For Szalai, it was a breakout moment. Fighting tears, she said: “I really can’t believe this is happening. It means a lot to me – this gives me confidence. It’s a really good feeling to stand next to my idols on the podium.”

Canada’s Desirae Ridenour impressed in her Supertri debut, finishing sixth for Podium Racing and showing strong form throughout the grueling format. Fellow Canadian Emy Legault was eliminated before the final bike leg while racing for Crown Racing.

Lehair now leads the overall women’s standings with 26 points, followed by Taylor-Brown (24) and Rosa Maria Tapia Vidal (15).

In the team standings, Podium Racing has extended its lead with 174 points, followed by Crown Racing (166), Brownlee Racing (121), and Stars and Stripes racing (103). The Supertri series will continue in Jersey on September 21st.
