Lance Egan’s Must-Have CDC Sally Pattern! | The Corn Fed Sally 2.0

In this fly tying tutorial Lance Egan ties the Corn Fed Sally 2.0!

Yellow Sallies are one of the more delicate species of stoneflies. As such, a dainty CDC pattern is fitting for a Sally imitation. Enter version 2.0 of the Corn-Fed Sally. Sallies often hatch in large numbers, and in my experience accompany more selective rising fish than their larger stonefly cousins. Trout are more likely to blow up on a large Salmonfly or Golden stonefly imitation, but tend to exhibit careful, less aggressive takes when eating yellow Sallies.
With that in mind, I set out to create a pattern quite different than a yellow stimulator or typical foam/elk hair style heavily dressed stonefly imitation.

Similar in design to the Corn-Fed Caddis, the Corn-Fed Sally uses CDC for the wings and hackle. If you’ve fished a Corn-Fed Caddis or other CDC pattern, I’m sure you’ve found CDC is as close to “magic” as duck feathers get 😉. Tie a few Corn-Fed Sallies and make the fish on your local waters aware of your presence 💪.
