With a few days to go before the Collins Cup, the man who had the fastest race of the day at last year’s event, Jan Frodeno remains in hospital as he undergoes a series of surgeries to overcome issues that came up after he was involved in a bike crash last month.

“Thanks for all your well wishes and support, I’ll do my best to get back there,” he said in a video posted on Instagram today. “I underwent my second surgery yesterday and … my doc is happy with how it went … the bacteria hasn’t spread any further and done any more damage.”
Frodeno originally announced that his injury would require two to five operations – it looks like he’ll be in for at least three. While we won’t see the three-time Kona and two-time Ironman 70.3 world champion compete at either world championship this year, he has said that he’s looking to get back to racing next year.
