Garmin’s TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic Acquisition: Here’s What We Know So Far
While Garmin’s announcement offered few details, one key question remains: what happens next for the training platform millions of athletes and coaches rely on?

It’s been a big news day with lots of announcements. Another one making waves is Garmin’s acquisition of TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic.
Very little was revealed in Garmin’s press release, apart from some general quotes expressing excitement about the news.
Brad Trenkle, Garmin Co-Chief Operating Officer, said: “TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic share Garmin’s passion for empowering athletes and coaches around the world with world-class training tools, performance metrics and actionable insights. The addition of these highly successful platforms to the Garmin ecosystem will expand access to more authentic coaching experiences – connecting athletes with professional coaches who guide, motivate and inspire them to reach their goals.”
Meanwhile, Andy Stephens, CEO of Peaksware Holdings, the parent company of TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic, added: “We’re thrilled to join forces with Garmin to advance our shared mission of empowering coaches and athletes with science-backed training. For over a decade, we’ve worked together to democratize coaching and performance insights, helping millions of athletes reach their peak through data-driven, structured training.”
What This Means
What does this mean for those of us using TrainingPeaks (or TrainHeroic), whether to log and monitor our own training or as coaches overseeing our athletes’ training?
The difficult part is that we don’t yet know what, if anything, it means. As mentioned, the press release revealed very little.
Given how widespread TrainingPeaks usage is, one speculative concern that has emerged is whether TrainingPeaks will maintain data neutrality – that is, the ability to sync with any type of device for training inputs and to push workouts to. If not, this could create compatibility issues and potentially force users to adopt Garmin’s products or switch to a different platform. But this is merely a hypothetical concern at this stage.
Ultimately, it seems we’ll have to wait and see. (We’ll be sure to update you as we learn more!)
